Many people love to grow potatoes along with many other kinds of vegetables in their household area. Apart from them, farmers also are keen on growing potatoes as it does not cost much effort and money. Digging these potatoes, however, can be quite a challenging job. While the farmers fetch the potatoes, the main problem they face is to clearly uproot those from the ground. There is another easy way, however, to fetch potatoes. Not just fetching, one can even grow potatoes in bags. Since the cost is much lower, it is a great way to grow potatoes.

1. Preparation of the Potatoes

Buying seed potatoes is a must thing to do as the older ones may carry diseases. Cut the large potatoes into two slices. Then place those in direct sunlight and wait for those to grow shoots.

2. Selecting Proper Bags

Undoubtedly, plastic or cloth bags are always the best option for growing potatoes. Paper bags, in general, might tear when those become wet. It can be avoided though by using paper bags with a plastic lining. It is still risky though. The size, generally, do not matter. It is advisable, however, to use a little bit bigger bag. A big sized bag allows the potatoes, some extra space to spread. The small sized bag, on the other hand, has the tendency to dry out soon.

3. Planting Procedure

One should depend upon the garden bags, filled with fertilized mixture. One can either opt for organic one or add his own ingredients. One needs to add almost 15 cm to the bag’s bottom and place the potatoes. It’s better to add 2-3 seeds inside one bag.

4. Taking Care of the Potatoes

Add some more potting mixture to reach the level of the new tops, without covering up the leaves. This can be repeated until the soil level reaches almost 5 cm from the bag’s top. Add water as required. Then one needs to wait for the seeds to grow.

It is advisable to add some sprinkles of Neem powder or as granule, every time the plotting mixture is added. Neem helps the crops to prevent the infection or damages caused by the insects.
